Alain Harrus is the CEO of Kateeva Inc., headquartered in Silicon Valley. Kateeva makes breakthrough production equipment for manufacturers of advanced electronics technologies. The company has pioneered a precision deposition technology platform that uses innovative inkjet printing to deposit coatings on complex applications with blinding speed and superb accuracy.

Alain was previously with Crosslink Capital, a San Francisco-based venture capital company. As a Partner, he led the firm’s semiconductor and energy technology investment activities. Before turning to venture capital, Alain developed breakthrough process technologies that kept semiconductor manufacturers on track with Moore’s Law—first as a Research Scientist at Bell Laboratories, later as Chief Technology Officer at Novellus Systems, and now as part of Lam Research. There, he championed a total copper metallization solution for advanced semiconductor manufacturing-adisruptive move that made Novellus a category leader and helped catapult the company across the $1 billion revenue threshold.

At Crosslink, his portfolio companies are developing technologies with practical economics that position them for nearterm mainstream. They include Alta Devices, Applied MicroStructures, Intematix, ReVera, SoloPower and Twin Creeks. Prior to joining Crosslink, Alain co-founded Compass Venture Partners and became a founding investor in Tesla Motors (NASD:TSLA). As an investor, Alain focused on early-stage science-based hardware companies developing challenging technologies. An engaged Board Member, he advised executive teams on strategic growth initiatives, particularly technology roadmap development, product and commercialization strategies, and infrastructure, as well as fund-raising, valuation and exits.

Alain’s advocacy for clean energy extends to non-profits where he evangelizes for the Sierra Club as Technology Advisor. He is also a member of the Al Gore-led Climate Reality Training Corps. He earned MS [Physics] and BS [Mathematics] degrees, as well as a PhD in Solid State Physics and Material Sciences. He has authored and coauthored more than 30 technical papers, is a co-inventor on six patents, and frequently presents at international conferences.
